For the third year in a row, the Thurecht group successfully co-hosted Science Challenge day competition at the Springwood Road State School in Brisbane. A total of 30 Students aged between 8-10 from three schools (Springwood Road State School, Springwood Central State School, and Chatswood Hills State School) participated in the competition. The day started with a demonstration on fun with dry ice. Then the students were exposed to four cool science experiments:

1. Cabbage indicator – learning about pH,
2. Yeast balloons – yeast growth by monitoring the gas they produce,
3. Jelly beads (alginate) – crosslinking and ionic bonds.
4. Surface racers

At the end of each experiment, they were given a challenge.

At the end of a hard day’s work, they celebrated with liquid nitrogen ice cream with chocolate topping and frozen marshmallow (our favourite!)!
