  • About James

I enjoy the sport of road cycling, so most weekends I am either racing my bike within the University of Queensland Cycling Club (UQCC), or out for a pedal somewhere nice - Mt Glorious via Samford and Mt O'reilly in Lamington National Park are my two favourite places to ride my bike, both provide some fantastic scenery and an excellent opportunity to test your physical and psychological strength. I also really enjoy cooking (and eating), particularly the classics from france.

James is a polymer chemist, with a particular interest in utilising ring opening polymerisation (ROP) and free-radical polymerisation techniques to synthesise polymer nanoparticles with well defined morphological characteristics. He also has a strong interest in building up predictive models for nanoparticle behaviour in vivo, which requires excellent physical characterisation of the material properties, as well as a methodical approach to in vitro and in vivo characterisation. Specifically, his current project involves looking at how altering the hydrophile of a hyperbranched polymer changes the biodistribution and cellular distribution, with a particular emphasis on characterising the interactions between unimolecular polymer nanoparticles and the organs involved with clearance, namely the liver and spleen.
